Description
Ponytail Falls waterfall- horizontal composition. A long exposure gives the moving water a white, silky texture, as the waterfall plunges through a rock crevice at frame left down through the frame and into a dark green pool centered at the bottom of the frame. Predominant colors are the green of the foliage, the grey of the dramatic basalt cliffs, and the white and blue of the water. The pool into which the waterfall plunges is circular, its shape emphasized first by the water’s edge, then the ring of rocks around the pool, and finally by the ring of foliage beyond that. A trail travels dramatically behind the waterfall and under the rock overhang over which the waterfall plummets. Ponytail Falls is in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon, on a trail that starts at Horsetail Falls on the scenic highway. The Columbia River Gorge is home to more than 150 waterfalls. See also my other shots of Ponytail Falls, Horsetail Falls, and the many other waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge and Oregon.
