Description
Horsetail Falls waterfall, vertical composition. A long exposure gives the moving water a white, silky texture, as the waterfall plunges through a rock crevice left of center down through the frame and into a dark green pool at the bottom of the frame. Predominant colors are the green of the foliage, the grey of the dramatic basalt cliffs, and the white and blue of the water. The falls hits a rock shelf half way down the frame, changing its angle. The waterfall is framed nicely between two trees, their bark showing their rough surface texture, softened by attached mosses. This is a very detailed photo, and provides a good study of the softness and motion of the waterfall contrasted with the hardness and stillness of the cliffs. Horsetail falls is right off the Scenic Columbia River Gorge Highway, east of Multnomah Falls. A trail starts here and a short hike up that trail takes you to picturesque Ponytail Falls, with the trail actually going under the basalt ledge and behind the waterfall. The Columbia River Gorge is home to more than 150 waterfalls. See also my other shots of Ponytail Falls, Horsetail Falls, and the many other waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge and Oregon.
