Description
Wahkeena Falls waterfall. In this vertical composition, a long lens provides a close view of the upper portion of Wahkeena Falls as it plunges through tree-covered basalt cliffs past boughs filled with the ambers of the fall foliage and down past a stone footbridge near the bottom of the frame. A long exposure has drawn the moving water into long, white, silky strands. The white water contrasts well with the dark rocks of the basalt cliffs and the bright yellows and oranges of the fall leaves, and even with the green of the leaves yet-to-turn. This is no ordinary waterfall, making one plunge straight down, but rather is jostled this way and that as it cascades over numerous boulders and ledges in the volcanic rock. Wahkeena Falls is a 242 foot waterfall, just the upper portion of which is shown here. It is one of very many waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge, located about thirty miles east of Portland, Oregon. Wahkeena Falls is a short walk (or hike, if you take the trail) away from the more famous Multnomah Falls. Look also for my many other shots of Wahkeena Falls and other waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge and around Oregon.
