Description
Proposal Rock Rises From the Mist- horizontal composition 1. Proposal Rock rises above a layer of sea fog in the background, standing sentinel over a grove of ancient, sunken tree trunks in the foreground. The warm morning light is partially diffused, lending a soft quality that helps to control the contrast. One edge of the large tidal pool forms a leading line from one of the stumps towards the monolith. The evenness of the sand and regularity of the water line at the right contrast with the complex interplay of water and wet sand on the left. The central placement of Proposal Rock enhances a stolid sense of weight to the outcropping, and contrasts with the sense of movement imparted by the asymmetrical placement of the other elements of the scene. This ancient sunken forest, as much as 2000 years old, preserved when the shore subsided beneath the waves. Shot near Proposal Rock at sunset, Neskowin Beach, at the little coastal town of Neskowin, Oregon. Proposal Rock is located at Neskowin Beach, off of the tiny coastal resort town of Neskowin, on the central Oregon coast. Neskowin beach offers a variety of scenes, from wave-torn rocks, to gently-sloping sandy beaches, to the romantic Proposal Rock, and even the sunken forest of historical and geological interest. Neskowin is located about twenty miles north of Lincoln City, or thirty miles north of Newport, Oregon. See also my many other photos of Proposal Rock, Neskowin Beach, and the Oregon coast.
