Dogwood. 4928x3264 px. In this horizontal composition, pink dogwood blossoms play across the field of view, their colors contrasting with the green leaves of the dogwood tree, while the shapes of their petals compliment the curves of the leaves. Taken with a wide-angle lens up close, the closest blossoms are enlarged dramatically, while the most distant ones are minimized, adding a greater feeling of depth and drama to the composition. At places near the periphery, the flowers of other plants add complimentary splashes of color. This image was taken in the garden of Elaine Hutson, Corbett, Oregon. Abstract photography seeks to portray a subject not literally, but more viscerally, communicating through form (shapes, patterns, lines, curves), color, texture, and the play of light and shadow.
