Yaquina Head Agate Beach Sunset. 3264x4928px. In this gorgeous horizontal image, the silhouette of the distant Yaquina Head and lighthouse provide dark counterpoint to the post-sunset sky, awash is muted but glowing golds, oranges, and purples, the light reflected in the surf below. The dark form of the head crosses the image at about the bottom third, with the middle third delineated by darker colors and clouds, and the upper third by brighter and lighter colors. The image is replete with horizontal lines, providing a sense or serenity, while the surf and horizon line along the top of the head provide slightly diagonal angles, providing a sense of gentle motion. The Yaquina Head Lighthouse is a historic building, construction began on it in 1871. At the time, the location was called Cape Foulweather, and early records list the building as the Cape Foulweather Lighthouse. It is on the central Oregon coast, not far from Lincoln City or Newport.
