Classic Military Aircraft Abstract- Control Surfaces. In this abstract horizontal composition (which could be rendered vertically), the multicolored control surfaces of a classic airplane form a brilliant pattern of red, white, blue, black, and yellow bands at right angles to each other. The red, white, and black are from the vertical control surfaces of the tail of the airplane, while the blue and yellow make up both the vertical and horizontal control surfaces (rudder and elevator) of the aircraft. Besides being visually striking, the patterns also harken to a bygone era of aviation to those even remotely familiar with the subject. There are three aviation museums that I know of not far from Portland, Oregon, which have classic aircraft. The first is the Tillamook Air Museum, which is in a World War II blimp hangar outside of Tillamook, Oregon, on the Oregon coast.
