Blue Angels Very Close Formation 2. In this horizontal composition of the Blue Angels flying in a close diamond formation, four brightly colored blue and yellow fighter jets streak across the frame from right to left, trailing white smoke against the clear blue sky. The contrast and shadows afforded by the full sunlight add depth to the image, while the use of a telephoto lens somewhat compresses the actual distance between the jets in the formation. The jets are flying extremely close to one another, with the distance from wingtip bottom to canopy top approximately just 18 inches. A fast shutter speed helps to freeze the motion of the fast-moving aircraft and preserves a lot of detail, with individual pilot’s helmets being discernible within the jet canopies.
