A beautiful dawn on Timothy Lake, the purple and rosy sky is reflected in the still waters, the serenity of the image established by the dark form of a stump with foliage presiding over all from the center of the scene. Pink-gray mist rises over the lake at the apparent horizon, with a darker band of trees along the shore just above that a third of the frame down from the top, and in the distance a rosy sky backlights nearby hills. Located about 50 miles from Portland, Oregon in the Cascades mountain range, Timothy Lake is created by a dam on the Oak Grove Fork of the Clackamas River.
