Description
Snow on Tree Branches Abstract 2. In this horizontal black and white abstract, bare tree deciduous tree branches of various sizes, their upper surfaces covered in snow, reach out into the cold air in a fractal-like display of chaotic lines and angles. One tree is central to the image, and provides a focal point of interest. This images was photographed during the winter storm of January 11th, 2017, near Binford Lake on the Butler Creek Trail, Gresham, Oregon. See my other image taken at this time, featuring different fractal-like shapes. Abstract photography seeks to portray a subject not literally, but more viscerally, communicating through form (shapes, patterns, lines, curves), color, texture, and the play of light and shadow. Often, just a small portion of the whole subject is shown, in order for part to speak for the whole, to communicate deeper meaning or aesthetic appeal through the details seen which would be missed if the whole were visible.
