Description
Panther Creek 1- Washington. North of Carson, Washington, near the Columbia River Gorge. A long exposure draws out the motion of the water of Panther Creek just at the top of Panther Creek Falls into a myriad of silky white streams cascading through the green of the moss and foliage on the rocks and the browns of the rocks and tree trunks, constrasting nicely with the darkness of the still pools of water into which the the whitewater flows. This shot was taken from the bank, the greens of the forest canopy predominating the upper third of the frame, and trees framing the scene beautifully right and left. A central boulder marks a place of stillness as the water rushes around it. The scene as a whole is a study in stillness counterpointed against movement, and seems to speak of repose in the midst of turmoil. Panther Creek Falls is on Panther Creek, a few miles upstream from Panther Creek Campground, also on the creek. Located near Big Lava Bed in Skamania County, the falls formed from a confluence of Panther Creek and a broad natural spring at the same location, the upper part plunging over 100 feet. See my other shots of the creek and Panther Creek Falls, and my many, many other shots of waterfalls, primarily those found in the Columbia River Gorge, east of Portland, Oregon (and also including this part of Washington’s southern border).
