Description
Upper Multnomah Falls waterfall Through the Mist. In this vertical composition, a combination of low clouds, fog, and fall mist give the impression that upper Multnomah Falls is a waterfall falling to earth from the clouds. The subdued colors and softening effect of the mist lend a painting-like quality to this shot of Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon. The cool colors emphasize the cool temperatures evident in the scene. Located about thirty miles east of Portland, Oregon, in the scenic Columbia River Gorge, Multnomah Falls is one of the taller waterfalls in the United States, at 611 feet tall, with the upper falls at 542 feet tall and the lower falls at 69 feet tall. During the coldest of winters, when the Portland area typically experiences an ice storm, Multnomah Falls often freezes. See also my many other shots of Multnomah Falls, both frozen and thawed, and of the many other waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge and Oregon.
