Description
Mount Hood Sunset on Lost Lake. 6347x4189. A colorful horizontal composition of Mount Hood as it rests regally over Lost Lake, the scene framed by fir trees and awash with the red and pink light of sunset and alpine glow through the smoke of a forest fire. The mountain’s base stands about a third of the way down from the top of the fame, with the width of the mountain taking up about three quarters of the frame. The snow of the mountain is aglow, especially at the peak, the light subtly reflected in the lake below. A row boat is seen crossing the lake in the lower right of the frame. The whole is serene yet dramatic. Lost Lake is a resort and campground not far from Hood River, Oregon, located near Mt. Hood. Mt. Hood is a volcanic peak in the Cascade Range, about fifty miles from the large Oregon city of Portland. It resides within the Mt. Hood National Forest. Now considered dormant, Mt. Hood last erupted (albeit in a minor way) in August of 1907. There are volcanic vents on the mountain which still emit volcanic gases. Of all of the very many volcanoes in Oregon, it is considered the one most likely to again erupt. See my many other photos of Mount Hood, and scenics from all over Oregon.
