Description
Japanese Coin Garden Fountain, Butchart Gardens, Victoria B.C., Canada. In this shady and cool horizontal composition, a bamboo fountain trickles into a classic Japanese coin fountain, the iconic shape denoting luck and good fortune. The gentle greens of the fountain compliment the deeper greens of the surrounding foliage and of the moss growing on the low rock wall. Reflecting the sky, water ripples across the surface of the coin fountain. Butchart Gardens was started to beautify the mined-out limestone quarry on the estate property. It now features a variety of gardens, from an indoor garden, to a hanging basket garden, to a Japanese garden, and much more. Common in Japanese culture are these garden fountains in the shape of Japanese coin. Often, they are inscribed with words to convey good fortune and prosperity. See also my many other photos of the Butchart Gardens, and of many other botanical gardens, as well as the Victoria Butterfly Gardens and other sights in Victoria.
