Description
Gecko on Glass- Kauai- Hawaii. A very detailed photo of the underside of a gecko as it rested on glass. In this horizontal composition, the side-lighting brings out the scaly detail of the lizard’s underside and the fringes on its toes, showing a great variety of color which contrasts against a black background. The gecko curves its body and spirals its tail in the iconic fashion. Geckos are quite common in the homes and buildings of Kauai, especially on the wet side of the island, where they help control the populations of unwanted insects. Kauai has both one of the driest spots on the planet and one of the wettest spots on the planet. This dry-wet split personality owes its existence to the rain-shadow effect, where moisture-laden winds drop their water as the air cools while gaining altitude on its way up the windward side of the mountain, and once you get to the leeward side, little moisture is left. Look also for my many other shots of Hawaii, especially Kauai and Maui, and many other shots of animals native to Hawaii and other locales.
