Description
Foggy Shoreline of Timothy Lake, Mount Hood. In this horizontal composition, morning fog mutes the colors along the shoreline of Timothy Lake, on Mount Hood, Oregon. A few stumps in the water occupy the far foreground, while the nearest and darkest trees range into the frame from the right about a third of the way, with the farther set of more indistinct trees extending about two-thirds of the way in from the right of the frame. The overall effect is balanced and soft interplay of light and shadow. Mt. Hood is a volcanic peak in the Cascade mountain range, about fifty miles from the large Oregon city of Portland. It resides within the Mt. Hood National Forest. Now considered dormant, Mt. Hood last erupted (albeit in a minor way) in August of 1907. There are volcanic vents on the mountain which still emit volcanic gases. Of all of the very many volcanoes in Oregon, it is considered the one most likely to again erupt. Located about 50 miles from Portland, Oregon in the Cascade mountain range, Timothy Lake is created by a dam on the Oak Grove Fork of the Clackamas River. It is a popular location for camping, fishing, and boating. It hosts several campgrounds, some which provide beautiful views of the nearby peak of Mount Hood.
