Description
Cruise Ship Abstract Centrum. In this horizontal composition (which could be rendered vertically), the viewer is treated to a look straight up the centrum of a Radiance class cruise ship, the open shaft bordered by glass-walled elevators, light-lined balconies, and multi-colored lights. At the end of the shaft, a ring of flood lights dazzle the eye, the brightest showing natural star-burst patterns. The total effect has a science-fiction-like quality, as if we are looking down a launch tube of some sort at a docking ring. Abstract photography seeks to portray a subject not literally, but more viscerally, communicating through form (shapes, patterns, lines, curves), color, texture, and the play of light and shadow. Often, just a small portion of the whole subject is shown, in order for part to speak for the whole, to communicate deeper meaning or aesthetic appeal through the details seen which would be missed if the whole were visible. The Serenade of the Seas is a Radiance class ship, large with a gross tonnage of 90,000, length of 365 feet, and beam of 106 feet, but a draft of only 28 feet. The ship has a cruising speed of 25 knots. Look for my many other images exploring the abstract qualities of cruise ship architecture, as well as other abstracts.
