Cloud-wreathed Coastline Inside Passage. A panoramic cloud-wreathed coastline in Alaska's Inside Passage. In this horizontal panoramic, successively distant peaks march across the frame from right to left, their lines and distance enhanced by clouds wreathing their slopes. The diagonal lines created by the mountain slopes (and some of the clouds) add motion to the image, contrasting with the stalwart nature of the edifices and the static nature of the horizontal shoreline at the horizon of the sea, a third of the way up from the bottom of the scene. Wave patterns in the sea add foreground interest. The Inside Passage is a seaway in southern Alaska that passes between the many majestic peaks of the mainland and offshore islands. Cruise ships often ply this route, as do humpback whales, orcas, and other species of whales. Look for my many other shots of Alaska and the Inside Passage.
