Allen Springs on the Metolius River. In this horizontal composition, a long exposure draws the moving water into silky, white strands and sheets. The image is divided into thirds, the upper third being the vibrant greens of verdant fern growth above the springs, the middle third the white, silky strands of the cascading water, and the lower third, the darker water of the Metolius River into which the Allen Springs feed. A fallen tree bisects most of the scene, breaking up the horizontal lines with a diagonal motif which emphasizes the motion of the water. The Metolius River is a spring-fed tributary of the Deschutes River, and is found in central Oregon near the town of Sisters (named after the Three Sisters mountains). It winds its way through the Deschutes National Forest and feeds into Lake Billy Chinook before finding its way to the Deschutes River.
