Description
Abstract Crater Lake Blue Water. An abstract horizontal shot of the deep blue water of Crater Lake. At upper frame right, the deepest blues preside, transitioning at a boundary of lighter blue to dark blues and greens and visible rocks in the shallower water at bottom frame left. The boundary layer creates diagonal lines through the frame, adding a lot of motion to the image, which already depicts a lot of motion in the unsettled surface of the water. Abstract photography seeks to portray a subject not literally, but more viscerally, communicating through form (shapes, patterns, lines, curves), color, texture, and the play of light and shadow. Often, just a small portion of the whole subject is shown, in order for part to speak for the whole, to communicate deeper meaning or aesthetic appeal through the details seen which would be missed if the whole were visible. Photographed within the caldera of Crater Lake National Park, Oregon. Crater Lake was formed by collapse of the volcano Mt. Mazama more than 7500 years ago. Crater Lake is five by six miles across, and at nearly 2000 feet deep, is the deepest lake in the United States, and one of the deepest lakes in the world. The caldera rim which contains Crater Lake is at an elevation of 7000-8000 feet. Crater Lake sits within Crater Lake National Park in Klamath County in central southern Oregon. It is the only national park in Oregon, and being established in 1902 is the fifth oldest national park in the United States. The area is a treasure trove of geological features. See also my many other shots of Crater Lake, and of other sights around Oregon, and of my many other abstracts.
