1957 Chevy Bel Air Grill Abstract 1. In this horizontal abstract, the jet aircraft-inspired forms of the grill and other fixtures of the 1957 Chevy Bel Air are reflected in the gleaming chrome of its bumper. The gold tones of the Bel Air grill compliment the red of the car’s body paint, and contrast with the blue of the reflected sky. Only a small portion of the grill is actually seen, but its reflection is stretched out along the curve of the bumper guard. The forms of metal flow around curves, giving them a liquid nature. The depth of field is deep, providing good detail across the frame. There is a lot of motion in the image, as static metal in straight lines is bent, warped, and liquefied in the mirror-like chrome. The Chevrolet Bel Air was Chevy’s upper model line, with the popular second generation body style running from 1955-1957. The 1957 model has the stereotypical large fins on the rear.
