1956 Pontiac Chieftain Headlight and Grill Abstract 1. In this abstract horizontal composition, the gleaming chrome of a classic car reflects the varied colors and shapes of its surroundings. The muscular forms in the grill of a 1956 Pontiac Chieftain gleam in the sunlight. The forms in this tableau are quite fluid– there are few straight lines, with shapes instead flowing from one to another, the chrome’s mirrored surface bespeaks of water, and even the cool, blue tones of the paint are suggestive of water. The sunlight gleams in several specular reflections diffracted naturally into starbursts by the small aperture utilized in the taking of this photo. There is also a muscularity and strength exuded in the bulging, rounded forms. Whereas cars of this era typically utilized forms reminiscent of jet aircraft, the high technology of the era and suggestive of speed, power, and dominance, this portion of the design of the Pontiac Chieftain seems to have taken an altogether diff...
